This theatrical workshop is being led by Alfredo Avila; he is sponsored by The Alliance for California Traditional Arts. Also in attendance is Antonio Delfino of ACTA.

Usually I photograph classes after the series' half-way point, which allows for the students' initial tentative, awkward, sometimes skeptical participation to be replaced by enthusiasm, commitment, collaboration, and spontaniety. I photographed this class during their seventh scheduled session—but due to numerous lockdowns and restricted programming orders, it was actually the first class for many participants and only the second class for everyone else. Nevertheless, Alfredo won the students over with his compassionate, professional teaching skills and everyone was all in from the opening exercise.

The class is part of Arts in Corrections; funding for these photographs was provided by the California Arts Council.
