- Poetry class at Pleasant Valley State Prison - 2019 Feb.
- 20190208_035_3714e.jpg
This poetry class is taught by Sally Vogl; she is sponsored by the Fresno Arts Council. There has been a fruitful collaboration between this class and a painting class at the same prison. The students in the oil painting class made some works, which were then transferred over to the poetry class. The poets are now in the process of creating verse based on their fellow inmates’ paintings. Because they live on different yards, the two groups of artists for the most part have never met. The visual art students have also created paintings that will be used as cover art for a poetry booklet that Sally is creating of her students’ work.
The class is part of Arts in Corrections (www.artsincorrections.org), which is funded by California's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and administered by the California Arts Council.
