This dress rehearsal, the night before the performance, was produced and performed by dance students at San Diego State University. The opening scenes of this production were created in response to a multidisciplinary art workshop at Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, California. You can see images of the incarcerated artists as they are projected on the wall of the university's dance space. The university performers adopted themes initiated by the incarcerated artists including heart imagery and crochet.

This dual-site, collaborative art project was funded by the National Endowment of the Arts and organized by the Prison Arts Collective. Instructors at the prison are Annie Buckley and John Rodriquez; the dance instructor at SDSU is Jessica Humphrey.

The class is part of Arts in Corrections (www.artsincorrections.org), which is funded by California's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and administered by the California Arts Council.
